Job description
Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)
As a Senior Software Engineer at Itekako, you will join our client's small team working on a news aggregation platform powered by Ruby on Rails on the backend side. You’ll help take over the project from the current team, ensure smooth data handling across 300+ sources, and support a future frontend rebuild by adjusting to the changes and documenting them. This is a hands-on role where your technical expertise and good communication skills will be key to driving the project forward.
- Design and develop reliable backend services using Ruby on Rails (version 5.x)
- Maintain and enhance a data-heavy platform aggregating content from 300+ external sources
- Ensure stability and performance while integrating with a wide range of third-party data feeds
- Collaborate within a small, agile team where everyone contributes to both new features and ongoing maintenance
- Support the planned frontend rebuild by providing clean and scalable APIs
- Take over from the existing development team: document current functionality and ensure smooth knowledge transfer
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented Ruby code
- Stay up to date with Ruby and Rails ecosystem improvements and best practice
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in software development using preferably Ruby on Rails
- Self-sufficient, proactive work style with clear and timely communication
- Keen attention to detail and quality
- Full working proficiency in English with excellent communication skills
